Where it came from
Released in 1998 by Ayers Inc., this compilation was produced to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the emergence of early video game music. It reflects a period in the late 1990s when Japanese record labels began treating chiptune and legacy game scores as serious musical compositions worthy of high-fidelity arrangements and professional interpretation.
The album features various artists who reinterpreted iconic tracks from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The design and production intent focused on bridging the gap between nostalgic, lo-fi origins and the more sophisticated electronic production sensibilities of the time, positioning the music as a cornerstone of Japanese digital pop culture history.
