Where it came from
Released in 2017 on the Discobole label, 30YearsFrom serves as a personal and reflective project for French double bassist Théo Girard. The album marks a significant milestone in his career, functioning as an introspective look at the passage of time and musical evolution. Girard composed the pieces with a specific focus on the interplay between the trio’s members, aiming to capture a sense of conversation and spontaneous narrative that defines modern European jazz.
The album reflects the influence of Girard's collaborative history and his interest in cinematic, atmospheric soundscapes. Designed with a minimalist aesthetic typical of the Discobole catalog, the packaging and musical direction prioritize clarity and acoustic texture. Upon its release, it was well-received by jazz critics who noted the technical precision of the trio and the nuanced, melodic sensitivity Girard brought to his compositions, solidifying his reputation within the contemporary French jazz scene.
