Where it came from
Released in 2008 by Eclectix Discovery Editions, A Jazz Christmas Like You've Never Heard serves as a collaborative exploration of holiday standards through the lens of contemporary jazz. The project features the Lee McClure Ensemble alongside vocalist Margaret Dorn, a seasoned professional noted for her extensive background in studio singing and vocal arranging. The album was conceived to provide a sophisticated, instrumental-leaning alternative to traditional Christmas pop arrangements, emphasizing improvisational depth and intricate harmonic textures.
The design and production aesthetic reflect a minimalist approach intended to align with the refined, atmospheric tone of the musical performances. Eclectix Discovery Editions produced this recording to reach an audience looking for high-fidelity jazz interpretations suitable for holiday environments that require a nuanced, non-intrusive soundscape. While the recording remains a niche entry in the seasonal jazz canon, it is recognized for its technical polish and the professional synergy between the ensemble and Dorn's vocal contributions.
