Where it came from
Released in 2010, Alles Van Rotterdam serves as a comprehensive musical tribute by Arie van der Krogt, a performer deeply embedded in the cultural landscape of Rotterdam. Van der Krogt crafted this collection as an homage to the city, utilizing his signature style of Dutch-language cabaret and folk music to capture the spirit, geography, and distinct character of his home port. The album was self-released, reflecting a DIY ethos that prioritized local authenticity over commercial polish.
The design and content of the record center on the artist's mission to chronicle Rotterdam's evolving identity through song. By curating a body of work that emphasizes local pride and common experiences, van der Krogt aimed to foster a sense of community among his listeners. The project was well-received within regional circles, where it is regarded as a sincere, if modest, archival effort that documents the artist's lifelong dedication to the city's lyrical history.
