Where it came from
Released in 1989 through GWR Records, the self-titled album by Andrea Black emerged during a transitional period for the label, which was better known for its roster of heavy metal and hard rock acts like Motörhead and Girlschool. The album represents a distinct aesthetic departure for the label, focusing on a more polished, contemporary pop-rock sound that was reflective of late-eighties production trends.
The record was intended to showcase the singer's versatile vocal style within a commercial framework, utilizing the studio craftsmanship common to the era. While it did not achieve significant mainstream chart success, it remains a notable entry in the GWR catalog for its shift away from the label's typical aggressive genre focus, standing as a singular project that highlights the diverse experimentation occurring in the European independent scene at the close of the decade.
