Bruce Boardman's New York Cafe Band

Released in 1999, this self-titled CD documents the work of Bruce Boardman's New York Cafe Band, a project rooted in the jazz and contemporary instrumental landscape of the late nineties. As an independent, self-released effort, the album reflects the increasing accessibility of home recording and boutique production during this era, allowing independent bandleaders to bypass traditional label infrastructure to share their compositions directly with listeners.

The album serves as a snapshot of Boardman's creative output, characterized by an accessible, melodic approach typical of cafe-style jazz ensembles of the period. Designed as a calling card for the group, the production focuses on capturing the collective chemistry of the ensemble. While the release remained a niche offering outside of mainstream commercial distribution, it serves as an authentic document of the independent jazz circuit in New York at the turn of the millennium.
