Bruno Walter In Vienna, London & NY

This collection represents a significant archival release from Opus Kura, a Japanese label renowned for its meticulous restoration of historical classical recordings. Released in 2017, the compilation gathers rare performances by conductor Bruno Walter, spanning his tenure with the Wiener Philharmoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. These recordings, which include interpretations of works by Haydn and Schumann, were curated to preserve the distinct sonic characteristics of mid-20th-century orchestral broadcasts and studio sessions.

The restoration process was designed to honor Walter’s lyrical conducting style, characterized by his emphasis on warmth and melodic fluidity. By utilizing original shellac and vinyl source material, the engineers aimed to minimize noise while retaining the original acoustic profile of these legendary ensembles. Upon its release, the set was received by audiophile communities and classical historians as an essential preservation effort, providing a clearer window into the technical execution and emotional depth that defined Walter’s career across three major musical capitals.
