Where it came from
Released in 2015 by Montevideo Music Group, Canciones y aéreos represents a collaborative project between the legendary Uruguayan multi-instrumentalist Hugo Fattoruso and percussionist Albana Barrocas. This album emerged from the HA Duo partnership, an ongoing musical exploration that blends Fattoruso's extensive background in jazz, candombe, and rock with Barrocas's rhythmic, electronic-infused approach. The recording serves as a bridge between generations, distilling complex Latin American rhythms into a minimalist, experimental soundscape that highlights the chemistry between the two musicians.
The album's design and sound were crafted to emphasize a balance between organic acoustic elements and modern digital production. Fattoruso and Barrocas sought to create an intimate atmosphere, prioritizing spontaneity and precise instrumentation over traditional studio layering. Upon its release, the work was received as a significant contribution to contemporary Uruguayan music, praised for its ability to reinterpret traditional folk textures through a distinctively modern, avant-garde lens.
