Charming Billy - Billy The Kid

Charming Billy, released in 2008 on the Comstock Records label, represents the musical output of Frank Fara, a long-standing figure in the independent country and western scene. Fara established Comstock Records in the mid-1970s as a platform for artists who embraced traditional storytelling and the mythos of the American West. This particular release serves as a conceptual reflection on the legend of William Bonney, better known as Billy the Kid, framed through the specific stylistic lens of Fara’s songwriting.

The album is characteristic of the production values associated with Comstock Records during the early 2000s, which prioritized acoustic arrangements and lyrical narratives over contemporary radio trends. Fara, who has maintained a prolific career as a producer and songwriter for several decades, designed the project to evoke the classic tropes of the outlaw folk ballad. While primarily marketed to a niche audience of Western music enthusiasts and independent radio programmers, it stands as a testament to Fara's commitment to keeping traditional Western themes active in the modern recording era.
