Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2012 by Rondeau Production, this album captures a selection of Eric Whitacre's choral works performed by the Junges Vokalensemble Hannover under the direction of Klaus-Jürgen Etzold. The collection focuses on Whitacre’s signature style, which is noted for its lush, expansive harmonies and emotionally resonant text setting, often described as neo-impressionistic. This recording serves as a significant contribution to the documentation of his contemporary choral output, offering a focused perspective on his themes of hope and human connection.

The album was conceived to showcase the technical precision and tonal beauty of the Junges Vokalensemble Hannover, an ensemble recognized for its high standards in chamber choir performance. The design and production intent were centered on capturing the ethereal, translucent textures characteristic of Whitacre’s writing, such as 'Lux Aurumque' and 'Sleep.' Upon its release, it was well-received by choral enthusiasts and critics for its clarity and the ensemble’s ability to navigate the complex, shifting dissonances that define Whitacre’s unique musical language.
