Where it came from
This 2014 Vocalion release serves as a two-album retrospective, pairing the 1960s RCA Victor recordings Country Piano-City Strings and Floyd Cramer Plays Country Classics. These albums capture the peak of the Nashville Sound, characterized by Cramer’s signature 'slip-note' piano style, which utilized grace notes to bridge chords and created the melodic, fluid aesthetic that defined mid-century country-pop production.
The albums were originally produced during a period when country music was intentionally polished with orchestral arrangements to appeal to broader, mainstream radio audiences. The Vocalion reissue preserves the original track listings and distinct tonal qualities of these sessions, maintaining the historical integrity of Cramer’s work as a foundational influence on the evolution of country and easy-listening piano arrangements.
