Provenance

Where it came from

This 2014 Vocalion release serves as a two-fer compilation, pairing Floyd Cramer’s 1968 album Here's What's Happening with his 1969 release Floyd Cramer Plays MacArthur Park. These records emerged during a period when Cramer, a prolific session pianist known for his signature 'slip note' style, was transitioning from his foundational work in the Nashville Sound to interpreting the popular hits of the late 1960s for the easy-listening market.

The albums were designed to showcase Cramer’s versatility in arranging contemporary pop standards for solo piano backed by lush orchestral arrangements. Vocalion’s 2014 reissue aimed to preserve these mid-career recordings for a new generation of audiophiles, maintaining the original artwork and track listings that characterized the polished, instrumental production aesthetic popular in the late sixties.
