Da oane Summa - Hans Gansch & Reinhold Ambros spielen Weisen & Jodler

Released in 1999 on the Schlawiner Records label, Da oane Summa features the collaboration of trumpeter Hans Gansch and musician Reinhold Ambros. This project emerged from the rich tradition of Austrian Alpine folk music, focusing on the interpretation of traditional Weisen and Jodler. The recording reflects a transition in the late nineties where virtuosic classical musicians explored the stylistic nuances of regional folk repertoires, seeking to preserve the authentic, meditative qualities of these mountain melodies.

The album is noted for its stripped-back arrangement, which highlights the clarity and technical control of Gansch’s trumpet work alongside the nuanced accompaniment provided by Ambros. By focusing on the melodic essence of the Jodler—a vocal tradition typically characterized by rapid shifts between chest and head registers—the duo aimed to translate the communal spirit of Alpine performance into a refined studio setting. Upon its release, the collection was well-received by enthusiasts of contemporary Austrian folk music who valued the preservation of these traditional forms.
