Dorian Gray

The 1997 self-titled album by the band Dorian Gray represents a distinct artifact from the late nineties independent rock scene. Emerging during an era when self-releasing music became increasingly accessible for regional bands, this project captures the group's attempts to formalize their sound without the backing of a traditional commercial record label. It serves as a snapshot of the underground creative climate of the time, documenting the band's aspirations and their specific artistic direction before the digital distribution era fundamentally altered the industry.

The design and production of this CD reflect the DIY aesthetic common among independent acts of the late nineties. By eschewing established label infrastructure, the band maintained total creative control over the packaging and musical arrangement. The release is primarily valued today as a niche historical document, offering a glimpse into the localized recording practices of a group working outside the mainstream radar, with the artwork and liner notes providing insight into the aesthetic identity they sought to project to their modest, dedicated audience.
