Dsida Jenő

Released in 2018 by the Gryllus label, this album serves as a musical tribute to the life and work of the Transylvanian Hungarian poet Jenő Dsida. The project was helmed by the Hungarian folk ensemble Misztrál, a group noted for their commitment to setting classical and contemporary Hungarian poetry to original folk and chamber music arrangements. This record continues the group's long-standing tradition of academic and artistic stewardship of the Hungarian literary canon.

The album reflects the delicate and often melancholic atmosphere characteristic of Dsida’s poetry, which is known for its themes of faith, solitude, and the ephemeral nature of life. Misztrál approached the composition with a minimalist aesthetic, utilizing acoustic instrumentation to ensure the focus remains on the rhythm and emotional weight of the verses. Upon its release, the collection was recognized for its role in preserving the legacy of an author whose work faced decades of political suppression, offering a contemporary meditative space for listeners to engage with his influential lyrical contributions.
