Where it came from
Released in 2009 on Adrian Belew’s own vanity label, Adrian Belew Presents, the album 'e' serves as a definitive studio document of the Adrian Belew Power Trio. Formed following Belew’s long tenure with King Crimson, the trio sought to distill the experimental complexity of his progressive rock roots into a more visceral, guitar-centric format. The project was conceived as a showcase for the interplay between Belew, bassist Julie Slick, and drummer Eric Slick, emphasizing live energy and technical virtuosity.
The album is noted for its exploration of Belew's signature guitar synth textures and his ability to balance pop-leaning sensibilities with avant-garde arrangements. Design-wise, the release adopts a minimalist aesthetic that aligns with the independent nature of the label, stripping away unnecessary artifice to focus the listener's attention on the sonic performance. Critics at the time praised the record for capturing a rejuvenated side of Belew's career, viewing it as a bridge between his classic progressive output and his contemporary interest in power-trio dynamics.
