Where it came from
Released in 2017 on the EYE label, En'Ma-O represents a multidisciplinary collaboration between Emiko Ota, Kawabata Makoto, and Julien Omeyer. The project emerged from the experimental music scene, blending traditional Japanese influences with avant-garde soundscapes. The album is characterized by its deep, meditative, and often improvisational sonic textures, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of its creators, particularly the psychedelic and experimental pedigree of Makoto.
The design and conceptual framework of the release center on the interplay between organic instrumentation and electronic processing. The artists aimed to create a visceral, transformative listening experience that honors the thematic weight of the title. While the release remains a niche entry within the experimental subculture, it has been noted by critics and listeners alike for its uncompromising commitment to atmosphere and the seamless blending of three distinct artistic perspectives.
