Where it came from
Eolienne, released in 2013, serves as the second solo studio album by French singer-songwriter Gaëtan Roussel, who rose to prominence as the frontman of the rock band Louise Attaque. Following the success of his debut solo work, Ginger, this album was produced under the Maison Barclay label to further explore Roussel's blend of melodic pop and alternative sensibilities, moving away from the more acoustic textures of his past work toward a layered, studio-polished sound.
The album reflects Roussel's interest in integrating electronic arrangements with his distinctive vocal style. Critics noted that the design of the record, both in its sonic production and its minimal visual aesthetic, aimed for a modern, ethereal atmosphere that mirrored the title—the French word for a wind turbine. While it received a mixed critical reception compared to the commercial explosion of his earlier work, it remains a notable chapter in his transition into a solo experimentalist.
