I

The album I was released in 2016 by the Kansanmusiikki-instituutti, an organization dedicated to the preservation and research of Finnish folk music. The Ostrobothnian Folk Orchestra is a collective known for interpreting the rich traditional musical heritage of the Ostrobothnia region, focusing on the preservation of fiddle-led dance music and local folk styles that have been passed down through generations. The release represents a contemporary effort to archive and perform these regional arrangements, ensuring that the specific tonal qualities and rhythmic structures of Northern Finnish folk music remain accessible to modern audiences.

The recording highlights the orchestral approach to folk music, where traditional melodies are structured for a larger ensemble rather than solo performance. The design and production goals of the Kansanmusiikki-instituutti centered on capturing the acoustic authenticity of the folk instruments, providing a clear and respectful documentation of the repertoire. The release was received as an important archival addition to the Finnish national music library, serving as both an educational resource and a showcase for the technical proficiency of the ensemble in maintaining regional cultural identity.
