Jamie Wight Presents Charlie DeVore And His New Orleans Family Band

Released in 2015 on the G.H.B. label, this recording captures the traditional jazz stylings of Charlie DeVore and his New Orleans Family Band under the production of Jamie Wight. The G.H.B. label, an offshoot of the Jazzology family of labels, has long been dedicated to the preservation of classic, New Orleans-style jazz and traditional dixieland, serving as a repository for musicians who maintain the specific rhythmic and harmonic sensibilities of early twentieth-century jazz.

The album serves as a testament to the endurance of the New Orleans tradition in a modern studio context. Charlie DeVore, a cornetist deeply embedded in the traditional jazz circuit, led the ensemble through a setlist designed to evoke the spirit of the historic jazz revival. The production approach by Wight emphasizes a clean, atmospheric sound, allowing the interplay between the cornet, clarinet, and rhythm section to mimic the intimate, conversational quality found in the live clubs of the French Quarter.
