Jolly New Songs

Jolly New Songs was released in 2017 through the French label Ici d'Ailleurs, marking a significant international breakthrough for the Polish rock band Trupa Trupa. Emerging from the vibrant independent music scene in Gdańsk, the album was composed and recorded during a period of creative transition for the quartet, as they sought to capture a sense of collective anxiety and existential tension within their post-punk and psychedelic framework.

The album's design and sound were largely guided by the band members, who aimed to blend dissonant, hypnotic melodies with deeply introspective lyrics. Upon its release, the record received widespread critical acclaim from outlets such as The Quietus and Pitchfork, who noted its claustrophobic yet captivating atmosphere. This reception solidified the group’s reputation for crafting intellectually dense arrangements that challenged conventional song structures.
