Jolly Roger

Jolly Roger was released in 2011 by the German dark electro project Santa Hates You, a duo formed by Peter Spilles of Project Pitchfork and singer Jinxy. The album emerged during a period when the project was solidifying its distinctive blend of gothic cabaret, industrial beats, and cynical, often dark-humored lyrical themes. Released on the Trisol label, it served as an extension of the band's theatrical and sometimes confrontational aesthetic, which sought to challenge traditional genre boundaries within the dark wave scene.

The album's design and sound were heavily influenced by the duo's interest in pirate motifs and alternative, high-energy electronic arrangements. Jinxy's vocal performance and the overarching visual branding were crafted to complement the project's rebellious, non-conformist identity. Upon its release, the album was met with appreciation from the niche industrial and dark electro community, who lauded its polished production quality and the unique, tongue-in-cheek conceptual framework that the band maintained throughout their career.
