Li Tambourado De L'Amour De Théodore Aubanel

Released in 2008 by Edition Tapenade, Li Tambourado De L'Amour De Théodore Aubanel is a musical project rooted in the cultural preservation of Occitan literature. The album serves as an interpretive work centered on the poetry of Théodore Aubanel, a prominent 19th-century figure of the Félibrige movement, which sought to revive the Provençal language and literature. By setting these romantic and pastoral verses to contemporary arrangements, the production bridges historical literary tradition with modern folk and experimental soundscapes.

The album was spearheaded by Henri Maquet, a musician and researcher noted for his deep engagement with the traditional instruments and musical heritage of Provence. Under the banner of Collectiù Tapenade, Maquet aimed to strip away the artifice often associated with traditional regional music, opting instead for a minimalist and atmospheric approach. The project was received within academic and folk circles as an evocative, albeit niche, meditation on the sonic possibilities inherent in the Provençal dialect, highlighting the rhythm and cadence of Aubanel's original poetry through a deliberate, stripped-back auditory lens.
