Where it came from
Released in 1999 on the Diamo label, this recording features German organist Markus Eichenlaub performing at the historic Abteikirche Marienstatt in Rhineland-Palatinate. The album serves as a technical showcase for the church's substantial Rieger organ, an instrument known for its versatility and tonal range, which was installed during the mid-20th century to complement the Cistercian abbey's distinct acoustic environment.
The production captures Eichenlaub at a significant point in his early career, focusing on a repertoire that highlights the structural nuances of the organ. By documenting the instrument through the high-fidelity standards of the late 1990s, the recording provides a reference for the organ's capabilities. It remains a specialized title primarily intended for enthusiasts of liturgical organ music and those interested in the Rieger manufacturing tradition.
