Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2013 by National Geographic Kids, this audio production was part of a series centered on Marvi, a mascot character designed to introduce children to the wonders of geography, history, and science. The project was helmed by Volker Präkelt, a seasoned German producer known for his extensive work in children's media and radio plays. The intent behind the series was to blend educational facts with narrative engagement, using the legendary journeys of Marco Polo as a vehicle to spark curiosity in young listeners about global exploration and cultural discovery.

The design and tone of the production reflect the educational branding of National Geographic, prioritizing clear, accessible storytelling that adheres to the standards of the German children's media landscape. By adapting historical accounts into the format of an audio adventure, Präkelt aimed to provide a supplement to traditional classroom learning, making complex historical figures relatable for a younger audience. Upon release, the series was received as a well-produced contribution to the German-language children's audiobook market, serving as both entertainment and an informational resource.
