Missa Solemnis Resurrectionis - Octacorda

The Missa Solemnis Resurrectionis was commissioned and released in the year 2000 under the Le Vele label as a collaborative project involving eight distinct Italian contemporary composers. This work was conceived to mark the turn of the millennium, bringing together figures such as Marco Betta, Giovanni Sollima, and Marco Tutino to craft a collective setting of the Mass. By inviting multiple composers to contribute individual sections, the project aimed to provide a mosaic of modern Italian classical styles, reflecting both traditional liturgical structure and the diverse musical languages of the late 20th century.

The performance by the ensemble Octacorda highlights the technical challenges inherent in such a multi-author composition, requiring a delicate balance to maintain thematic cohesion across disparate creative voices. The initiative was part of a broader interest during the late 1990s and early 2000s in collaborative sacred music projects that sought to engage with canonical forms through a contemporary lens. Upon its release, it was noted primarily by specialized circles of contemporary classical enthusiasts, serving as an interesting case study in how multiple composers can interact with a shared, rigorous structure.
