Where it came from
Released in 1989 on the Kiwi label, this recording serves as a significant archival document of late 20th-century New Zealand chamber music. It was produced to highlight the works of four prominent local composers—David Hamilton, Ross Harris, Christopher Blake, and Larry Pruden—capturing the evolving landscape of contemporary classical composition within the region during that era.
The disc features complex, atmospheric compositions like Hamilton’s Nix Olympica, which draws inspiration from the Martian landscape to explore vast tonal colors. The production reflects the high standards of Kiwi, a label dedicated to documenting New Zealand's musical heritage, providing a platform for avant-garde and traditional chamber ensembles to reach a wider audience beyond live concert halls.
