Where it came from
Released in 2006 by the label Wedoo Music, this compilation serves as a curated retrospective of the work of Théo-Blaise Kounkou, a prominent figure in the Congolese rumba and soukous music scene. The album highlights the artist's legacy from the late 1970s and 1980s, a golden era for Central African dance music characterized by intricate guitar interplay and vibrant, polyrhythmic percussion.
The project was designed to preserve and reintroduce Kounkou’s compositions, such as the title track 'Nadia Soleil', to a contemporary international audience. By gathering these recordings under the 'Original Masters' banner, the label aimed to maintain the fidelity of the vintage studio sessions while ensuring the music remained accessible to listeners interested in the evolution of African pop music during the mid-to-late twentieth century.
