Where it came from
Originally released in 1978, this self-titled solo album marked Randy Meisner's first major studio effort following his departure from the Eagles. Seeking to establish a distinct identity away from the band's polished country-rock aesthetic, Meisner collaborated with producer Alan Brackett to craft a sound that leaned into soulful pop-rock and California-inflected ballads. The record served as a pivotal transitional moment for the bassist, allowing him to explore his personal songwriting voice during a period of significant career adjustment.
This 2024 edition, released by Music On CD, functions as a modern archival reissue intended to keep Meisner’s solo catalog accessible to contemporary listeners. The design remains faithful to the minimalist original cover art, which highlights Meisner’s transition from a high-profile band member to a solo performer. While the initial 1978 release received modest critical attention, these reissue cycles are appreciated by collectors for preserving the technical nuances of the original studio recordings and acknowledging Meisner’s enduring legacy in the rock music canon.
