Where it came from
Released independently in 1992, this self-titled CD reflects the DIY ethos of the early nineties independent music scene. Randy Narayan produced this work without the backing of a traditional record label, a common practice for artists during this era who sought to retain creative control and distribute their music directly to local audiences or through small-scale retail channels.
The album serves as a snapshot of Narayan’s personal musical evolution during the transition from the late eighties underground to the more accessible production standards of the nineties. The design and sound are characteristic of home-produced, self-financed projects from the time, focusing on individual expression rather than the commercial polish mandated by major label A&R departments. It remains a rare artifact for collectors interested in the democratization of music production that began in the early nineties.
