Where it came from
Sous Les Pommiers was released in 2022 to commemorate the milestone 40th anniversary of the Jazz sous les pommiers festival, a prestigious annual jazz event held in Coutances, France. The album serves as a collaborative tribute, bringing together a cross-generational ensemble of prominent French and European jazz musicians who have been closely associated with the festival's history. It functions as a sonic retrospective, capturing the spirit and artistic diversity that the festival has championed since its inception in 1982.
The album was produced under the banner of the festival itself, emphasizing a collective approach to arrangement and improvisation. It features a diverse lineup including vibraphonist Franck Tortiller, bassist Yves Rousseau, and pianist Bojan Zulfikarpašić, among others. The project was conceived as a celebration of the festival's enduring role as a hub for contemporary jazz in Normandy, and the performances reflect an intentional blend of acoustic textures and creative modernism that defines the contemporary French jazz scene.
