Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2015 alongside the highly anticipated role-playing game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this official soundtrack was produced by CD Projekt Red to accompany the concluding chapter of Geralt of Rivia's story. The music was composed primarily by Marcin Przybyłowicz and Mikolai Stroinski, who sought to capture the rugged, Slavic-inspired atmosphere of the Continent. Their work incorporates both traditional orchestral arrangements and authentic folk instrumentation, notably featuring the band Percival, whose unique percussion and string work became synonymous with the game's gritty, immersive soundscape.

The soundtrack design reflects the dark fantasy aesthetic of the franchise, emphasizing the juxtaposition between the game's brutal combat sequences and its melancholic, expansive wilderness. Upon its release, the score was widely praised by critics and players alike for its thematic depth and technical execution, eventually winning numerous industry awards. It remains a hallmark of modern video game composition, celebrated for how it seamlessly integrates regional folklore influences into a grand, cinematic structure.
