Tony Hendrik Productions / Best Of Coconut

The Best Of Coconut compilation serves as a retrospective of the Coconut Records label, founded by Tony Hendrik and Karin van Haaren. Established in the late 1970s, the label became a significant force in the European dance and pop scene, most notably for its role in the success of projects like Bad Boys Blue and A La Carte. The label was instrumental in crafting the quintessential Euro-disco sound, characterized by lush synthesizers and melodic, rhythmic structures that defined radio airplay throughout the 1980s.

This 2020 release functions as a curated look back at the label's influential catalog, designed for listeners seeking a definitive collection of Hendrik's production work. The compilation highlights the collaborative efforts between Hendrik and his writing partners, showcasing the evolution of the 'Coconut sound' across several decades. While the label's aesthetic was often driven by commercial production goals for the international dance floor, this retrospective is positioned as an archival tribute to the specific sonic imprint Hendrik left on the pop landscape.
