Where it came from
Weltscheibn was released in 2016 by the Austrian folk-music trio Dornrosen, consisting of sisters Katharina, Christine, and Veronika Schicho. The album serves as a quintessential example of their 'Kabarett-Chanson' style, which blends traditional Austrian folk instruments with witty, satirical lyrics. The trio emerged from the vibrant Viennese cabaret scene, where they became known for their ability to balance virtuosic musicality with sharp-tongued social commentary.
The production, handled by Südpolentertainment, captures the sisters' signature acoustic sound, which often relies on a mix of double bass, guitar, and cello. The design and concept of the album reflect the group’s long-standing aesthetic: a playful yet sophisticated interrogation of contemporary Austrian life. While Dornrosen has maintained a consistent and loyal following in the German-speaking world for their live performances, this record is widely regarded as a polished representation of their mature comedic and musical partnership.
