When Larry Met Harry

When Larry Met Harry was released in 2010 on the Café Society Recordings label, serving as a collaborative project between jazz pianist Larry Goldings and saxophonist Harry Allen. The album emerged from a long-standing mutual respect between the two musicians, who sought to blend their distinct sensibilities—Goldings’ nuanced, organ-and-piano versatility and Allen’s deep grounding in the mainstream swing and ballad tradition. The pairing was conceived as an intimate dialogue, focusing on a repertoire of jazz standards delivered with a relaxed, sophisticated chamber-jazz aesthetic.

The album was noted by critics for its understated elegance and the seamless interplay between the two performers. Design-wise, the release adheres to the classicist visual language often associated with Café Society Recordings, emphasizing the musical partnership rather than elaborate graphic flair. Upon its release, it was well-received by listeners who appreciate the duo's ability to maintain a sense of spontaneity while adhering to a polished, melodic framework, cementing its status as a reliable entry in the contemporary jazz catalog.
