Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?

Originally written by Edward Albee and premiering on Broadway in 1962, this seminal piece of American drama depicts the volatile late-night confrontation between a middle-aged couple and their guests. The work became a cornerstone of mid-century theater for its unflinching, acerbic exploration of marital disillusionment and the illusions that sustain human relationships. The 2014 Masterworks Broadway release serves as a archival restoration, preserving the intense psychological tension that defined the original production's initial run.

The 2014 reissue draws upon the original 1962 Columbia Masterworks recording, which was produced to capture the explosive performances of the original cast, including Uta Hagen and Arthur Hill. This recording is noted for its pristine transfer quality, which highlights the biting cadence and rhythmic desperation of Albee's dialogue. It is regarded by theater historians as a definitive auditory document of the production, intended to immerse the listener in the claustrophobic atmosphere that critics in the 1960s lauded as a transformative moment for American theater.
