Where it came from
This recording was released by the label Neos in 2018 to document the performance of works by the German composer Wolfgang Jacobi during the Megève Festival. Jacobi, a composer who navigated the complex cultural shifts of the mid-20th century, saw his work largely obscured by history, making this retrospective collection a significant effort to preserve and revitalize his musical legacy for contemporary audiences.
The album features a diverse ensemble of performers, including the Arditti Quartet and the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, under the direction of conductors like Pierre-André Krummenacher. The production aims to highlight Jacobi’s distinct harmonic language through live performance, providing listeners with a clear sense of the spatial and acoustic atmosphere of the Savoy Truffle setting, while offering a rare, curated look at the depth of his chamber and orchestral compositions.
