10 Cash (Da Han coinage)

The 1911 Kiangsi 10 Cash coin, often referred to as the Da Han coinage, was minted during the final year of the Qing Dynasty as the Xinhai Revolution began to destabilize imperial control. Issued by the provincial government in Kiangsi, the coin represents a pivotal shift in Chinese numismatics, moving away from imperial titles toward the revolutionary aspiration of a 'Great Han' republic. The transition reflected the regional authorities' attempts to establish local economic legitimacy amidst the collapse of centralized Qing administrative power.

The design of the coin features the characters 'Da Han'—meaning Great Han—prominently on the obverse, a deliberate departure from the traditional imperial dragon imagery that characterized preceding issues. While the production quality varied due to the rapid, often chaotic circumstances of its minting, the series remains historically significant for its role in signaling the end of dynastic rule. It was received at the time as a clear declaration of political autonomy by the provincial government, serving as an early harbinger of the Republic of China's establishment later that year.
