Where it came from
The 1942 10 Centavos coin from Bolivia was minted during a period of significant economic transition for the nation. Struck in copper-nickel, this denomination served as a standard subsidiary currency, reflecting the country's efforts to maintain a stable circulating coinage amidst the broader global instability caused by the Second World War. These coins were produced to facilitate daily commerce in a landscape that was increasingly focused on the export of tin and other vital raw materials.
The design of the 10 Centavos features the national coat of arms of Bolivia, emphasizing the country's sovereignty and rich geography. The iconography, common to the era's coinage, was intended to project stability and national pride. While these pieces were mass-produced for utility rather than artistic expression, they remain significant historical artifacts that capture the aesthetics of South American numismatics during the mid-twentieth century.
