Where it came from
The 2018 2000 Tögrög coin featuring the Velociraptor is part of a celebrated series of Mongolian bullion and commemorative coins that showcase the rich paleontological history of the Gobi Desert. Issued by the Bank of Mongolia, the series is designed to celebrate the nation's status as one of the world's most significant sites for dinosaur fossil discoveries, reflecting a growing global interest in numismatic items that blend scientific themes with high-relief artistry.
The design of this particular issue is distinguished by its innovative use of a small audio-enabled feature, a common hallmark of these specialized releases, allowing owners to hear a recreation of the dinosaur's call when pressed. Produced with a focus on collectors who appreciate both technological novelty and natural history, the coin utilizes intricate minting techniques to render the prehistoric subject with striking detail, securing its place as a popular entry in the modern wildlife and paleontology coin market.
