2001, A Space Odyssey #7

Published in 1977 by Marvel Comics, this series was part of an ambitious effort by Jack Kirby to adapt Stanley Kubrick’s seminal 1968 film into a monthly comic book format. While the series took its titular inspiration from the movie, Kirby utilized the medium to explore grand, cosmic concepts that expanded far beyond the specific plot points of the original narrative, effectively weaving his own expansive mythology into the space-faring framework.

Jack Kirby both wrote and illustrated this run, bringing his characteristic visual dynamism to scenes of evolutionary transformation and interstellar exploration. By the seventh issue, the series had established a distinct identity that merged science fiction pulp sensibilities with Kirby’s signature abstract storytelling style. Though it was intended to serve as a bridge between high-concept cinema and sequential art, it is now primarily regarded by historians as a quintessential example of Kirby’s late-career creative freedom.
