A Mischief of Magpies #1

A Mischief of Magpies #1 emerged from the independent comic landscape as the debut installment of a series centered on the investigative exploits of Simon Feximal and Lord Charles Carew. The narrative, written by K.J. Charles and adapted into comic form, draws heavily from the Victorian-era aesthetic and the tradition of supernatural mystery fiction. It was crafted to blend historical period detail with elements of the occult, focusing on the dynamic between its two lead characters against a backdrop of atmospheric, fog-laden London.

The visual design of the issue prioritizes a noir-inflected illustration style, utilizing stark contrasts and precise linework to evoke a sense of period authenticity. Created for a niche audience interested in historical fantasy, the work was received as a faithful expansion of the source material. Its production reflects the growing trend of small-press comic adaptations that bridge the gap between prose fiction and visual storytelling, emphasizing character-driven stakes over broad genre tropes.
