Action Comics Weekly #622

Action Comics Weekly #622, published in October 1988, represents a transitional moment in DC Comics history. During this period, the publisher experimented with the anthology format for their flagship title, moving away from a single superhero narrative to a rotating series of shorter, serialized stories featuring various characters such as Superman, Black Canary, and Green Lantern. This shift was intended to revitalize interest in the weekly format, which challenged the standard monthly publication cycle of the time.

The issue features artwork and stories from a wide range of creators active in the late 1980s, reflecting the editorial push to maximize variety within the DC universe. As part of an experimental phase, the design and layout were structured to accommodate multiple creative teams simultaneously, aiming to capture the momentum of the burgeoning direct-market comic book era. While the weekly format eventually concluded, these issues are now studied by historians as a notable departure from the traditional solo-character focus of the Action Comics brand.
