Where it came from
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons #2 was published by DC Comics in 1988 as part of an official licensing agreement with TSR, the creators of the original tabletop role-playing game. Released during a period of high popularity for the Dungeons & Dragons franchise, the series was intended to translate the complex mechanics and high-fantasy lore of the game into a more accessible narrative format for comic book readers.
The issue features artwork by Jan Duursema, a notable illustrator in the comic industry, and storytelling by Dan Mishkin. The creative team aimed to maintain the adventurous spirit of the game while establishing a serialized structure suitable for the medium. The series was generally well-received by fans of the game, providing a visual expansion of the Forgotten Realms setting that served to bridge the gap between the hobbyist community and the broader comic book audience.
