Adventure Comics #440

Adventure Comics #440, published in July 1975, represents a significant period in DC Comics history during the mid-1970s. At this time, the series served as a primary showcase for the Aquaman feature, following a long tradition of the title acting as a testing ground for various characters and storylines. This specific issue is noted for its involvement in the Bronze Age of comic books, characterized by a shift toward more complex, darker thematic elements compared to the earlier Silver Age.

The creative direction for this period of Adventure Comics often emphasized high-stakes fantasy and political intrigue within the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. The stories were designed to expand the lore surrounding Arthur Curry, focusing on his responsibilities as a king and his recurring struggles against antagonists like Ocean Master. As part of a long-running anthology series, the issue reflects the industry's editorial push to keep legacy titles relevant by leaning into the dramatic, character-driven narratives that defined the DC landscape of the decade.
