Adventure Comics #487

Adventure Comics #487 was published in February 1982 by DC Comics during a period of transition for the long-running anthology series. By the early 1980s, DC was shifting away from the traditional format of featuring multiple short stories in favor of dedicated character spotlights. This specific issue is notable for its focus on the character Dial H for Hero, a concept originally introduced in the 1960s that allowed the protagonist to gain random superpowers by dialing H-E-R-O on a mysterious rotary phone.

The creative direction for this era of the series was heavily influenced by the editorial mandate to modernize classic concepts for a changing readership. Written by E. Nelson Bridwell and featuring art by Carmine Infantino, the issue aimed to blend the whimsical, imaginative nature of the original Silver Age stories with a slightly more contemporary, character-driven narrative. While Adventure Comics had a storied history reaching back to the Golden Age, this issue serves as a representative example of the publisher's efforts to keep their legacy titles relevant through the experimental tone of the early 1980s.
