Adventures in the DC Universe #5

Adventures in the DC Universe was launched in 1997 as a monthly comic book series designed to capture the aesthetic and tone of the popular DC Animated Universe, specifically the continuity established by Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Issue number 5, released in late 1997, features a story titled 'The Dark Knight's First Night,' which focuses on a younger Batman reflecting on his early days in Gotham City. The series served as a bridge for fans of the television programs, offering original stories that maintained the simplified, clean art style popularized by Bruce Timm and his animation team.

The issue was written by Steve Vance and illustrated by Rick Burchett, a veteran artist known for his significant contributions to the animated-style DC comics. The creators aimed to provide a sense of accessibility for younger readers while maintaining enough narrative depth to satisfy long-time followers of the animated shows. Upon release, the issue was well-received by the comics community for its ability to distill complex DC mythos into the concise, high-contrast visual storytelling that defined the 1990s animation boom.
