Adventures into Weird Worlds #17

Adventures into Weird Worlds #17 was published by Marvel Comics in 1973, serving as part of the publisher's mid-1970s push into horror and suspense anthology titles. During this period, Marvel sought to compete with established giants like EC Comics and Warren Publishing by leveraging the relaxation of the Comics Code Authority, which allowed for more mature, supernatural storytelling. The issue features an array of dark, suspenseful tales typical of the genre’s shift toward psychological tension and macabre twist endings.

The creative direction for this series emphasized a gritty, atmospheric aesthetic, with cover art and interior illustrations crafted by a rotating stable of artists who defined the bronze age of comics. The style leaned heavily into high-contrast inks and detailed character expressions to evoke a sense of unease. While not as iconic as some of Marvel’s superhero titles, the issue is remembered by collectors for its representative look at the experimental, offbeat editorial spirit that characterized Marvel's output during the mid-70s.
