Albedo number three, published in 1984 by Thoughts & Images, represents a significant milestone in the history of independent comics. As part of an anthology series edited by Steve Gallacci, this issue is most notable for featuring the first professional appearance of Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo. The series was designed to provide a platform for anthropomorphic character-driven stories, distancing itself from the dominant superhero narratives of the era by focusing on stylistic storytelling and world-building.

The aesthetic of the early Albedo issues was heavily influenced by the underground comix movement and the burgeoning interest in anthropomorphic art. Gallacci, who also contributed his own Eos series to the title, sought to create a sophisticated venue for creators to experiment with genre fiction.
