Where it came from
Released in 2001 by Dark Horse Comics, Angel #15 is a key entry in the publisher's expansion of the Joss Whedon television universe. This issue continues the darker, more introspective tone established in the comic adaptation, serving as a bridge between the show's narrative arcs and the expanded lore found in print. The series was designed to capture the moody, atmospheric noir aesthetic of the show, blending supernatural elements with character-driven drama.
The interior art for this period of the run leaned into stylized, expressive character work to differentiate the book from the typical superhero fare of the era. Critics at the time noted the challenge of translating the specific performances and visual tone of the television show onto the page. While series reception was mixed among traditional comic readers, it remains a significant touchstone for collectors of the Buffyverse, reflecting the peak era of tie-in publishing during the early 2000s.
